仿译自日语 不気味の谷 (ぶきみのたに, bukimi no tani),源自中古汉语 不 (pjuw) + 氣味 (kì-mjɨ̀j, “感觉,感受”) + 日语 の (no, 名词修饰助词) + 谷 (たに, tani, “峡谷”)。首次是由机器人专家森政弘于1970年使用。
